I believe the basis of humanity is creation.
Civilization and humanity are often regarded as the same thing but I see them more as a heavily linked Venn Diagram. Animals have their own forms of civilization; that doesn’t make them human.
Humans create. That’s how we progress. Modern society has turned creation into consumerism- not even just due to capitalism but because humans just want things.
We draw parallels between ourselves and what is around us, we hoard shiny things like magpies. The same patterns we see on the tips of our fingers reflect in the age rings of trees. We were born to connect with everything around us, we heal each other and create to keep our history alive. From cave paintings to Renaissance art, it is a legacy.
We create for history, for teaching, for reflection, for joy, whether as an individual or with others, humanity leaves a mark.
